Truman C. Rutt retired from the AVX Corporation Research and Development Laboratory at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in 1998. He received his B.S. in Physics from Northern Illinois University in 1959 and his M.S. in Physics from the University of Illinois in 1964. He began his research career with TAM Ceramics in 1960 and joined AVX in 1979.
Much of his work has dealt with powder synthesis, processing, and characterization of titanate ceramic materials. His work on metal impregnation of internal electrodes (TAM Ceramics) has proven to be a cost-effective technique for multilayer capacitor manufacture. His American Ceramic Society Electronics Division meeting presentations have focused on interrelationships between materials, processing, and device optimization.
Rutt holds eleven U.S. patents. He is a member of the American Physical Society, ISHM, and is a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society. Though retired since 1998, he still does consulting work part-time.
The Center for Dielectric studies presented Mr. Rutt with the Wilhelm R. Buessem Award at the CDS Awards Dinner on September 22, 1993.
